Turtle Mountain Housing Authority gains self-sufficiency, speed, and transparency

Situation
The Turtle Mountain Housing Authority (TMHA) currently manages 759 rental units and 380 homeowner units, operating under a $6.4 million government block grant for maintenance and overhead from NAHASDA (the Native American Housing and Self-Determination Act of 1996). The 100 housing authority employees--30 of who use the accounting system--work in four locations: Belcourt, St. John, Dunseith, and Shell Valley, N.D.

Sisseton-Wahpeton Housing Authority

Situation

Sisseton-Wahpeton Housing Authority (SWHA) manages almost 700 units of Tribal housing and this number is growing annually. Their ever-increasing need to automate various functions requires flexible software. Prior to Great Plains, they used a fee accounting package, which was managed offsite. Beginning in 2000, it was apparent they needed to switch to an in-house system. Making that move would provide them access to information whenever it was needed so that timely reports could be provided to management and to the Board of Commissioners. The system would also need to handle all their operations including reporting, financials, tenant accounting, payroll, and job costing functions.
